Pre Anaesthetic Instructions
The presence of food or drink in the stomach is dangerous during and after an Anaesthetic.
On the day of operation
- No food, or any form of chewing gum for 6 hours prior to admission.
- Clear fluids may be consumed up to 2 hours prior to admission.
- Regular morning medication may be taken with water.
Prior to your operation
- Consult your Surgeon regarding “ blood thinning ” medication - especially Warfarin, Aspirin etc.
- Consult your Anaesthetist for special arrangements for insulin dependent diabetics and patients on SLGT2 inhibitor agents (Forxiga®), Jardiance®), or in combination with Metformin(Xigduo®, Jardiamet®).
Please notify your Anaesthetist or Surgeon if you develop a cold or fever prior to your operation.
Reduction or cessation of smoking pre-operatively is to your advantage.
